Welcome to the official website of the MacClafferty of Ulster Clan.

We aim to promote the interests of all MacClafferty's internationally, who share the same common heritage. Our's is a rare Ulster surname, which was first found on the Isle of Islay, one of the Hebridean islands of Scotland and Court of Lord of the Isles. To day on the Island of Irelnd, we are to be found mainly located in County Donegal in the North West of Ireland.  The first known recordings of a spelling similar to that of the modern spelling of ''MacClafferty''  is  that of John Macclaffirdy in 1376 on the Estates of Castle Douglas.

As a sept of Clan Donald the MacClafferty's traditionally recognise The Mac Donald as our Patron & Kinsman. The current Chief of Mac Donald is Godfrey James Mac Donald, DL, of MacDonald, 8th Baron MacDonald, 34th Hereditary Chief of Clan Donald.   

The Honorary President of The Clan is, Alexander, 9th Earl of Antrim & Viscount Dunluce.

The Clan has the very rare and privilaged distinction to have a ''Royal Patron'' Indeed the Mac Clafferty of Ulster Clan is the only Irish Clan to have a ''Royal Patron'' today.  The ''Royal Patron'' of the Clan is His Highness Prince Dom Miguel de Braganca, Duke of Viseu & Infante of Portugal, brother of the Duke of Braganca, titular King of Portugal.  

As a recognised Sept & kinsmen of Clan Donald, We have the right to wear the MacDonald of the Isles tartan and Clan badge.

In 2004, Mr John McClafferty of Dundee, Scotland registered a specific ''McClafferty Tartan'' with the Scottish Register of Tartans, designed by Peter MacDonald and based on the VS MacDonald of the Isles design to be worn by all MacClafferty's if so desired.
